"Without his valuable input and dedication Centenary would most certainly not be the same Tier One national liberal arts college that it is today," said Centenary President David Rowe. "Roy loved Centenary dearly and served the institution faithfully. Please join me in giving thanks for his life and for his loyal service to the College. We are all the better for having known Roy."

A friend of the College for much of his life, Mr. Hurley became a trustee in 1979, serving on various committees and leading as Chairman from 1995 to 1999. He maintained an office in Centenary Square for a number of years and his wife, Dean, became a founding member of the Women's Endowment Quorum. Hurley was named an Honorary Alumnus in 2000 and appointed a lifetime membership to Centenary's Board of Trustees in 2013, ensuring his legacy with Centenary for years to come.

Hurley had an extensive career in the Shreveport-Bossier community and was the original owner of Tri-State Oil. A graduate of Louisiana Tech, Mr. Hurley was named Alumnus of the Year in 1971 and was a recipient of the Tower Medallion Award in 1998. The Tower Medallion honors Louisiana Tech alumni who have distinguished themselves by exceptional achievement, community service, and humanitarian activities.

Hurley would have celebrated his 90th birthday on the 5th of the next month.

He leaves behind his wife, Dean, and his two daughters, Becky and Nancy. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
