Centenary listed as "Best Value" among Harvard, Yale

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College was recently listed in the top ten in Kiplinger's Best Values in Private Colleges Under $20K for 2014. The online report featured schools from Kiplinger's annual rankings that have high "sticker prices" but a total net cost of attendance of $20,000 or less after need-based and institutional aid. The top ten also included Harvard, Yale, Amherst, along with several elite institutions with substantial endowments and need-based aid programs.

The introduction to the feature also mentions that students who attend the schools listed graduate with lower-than-average student loan debt. Centenary continues to boast an average student debt burden that is less than both the federal and state averages for all four-year institutions, both public and private. Over 97 percent of Centenary students receive some form of financial aid.

This report follows the October release of Kiplinger's annual national rankings of best values in private colleges, a list that Centenary appears on perennially. Nationally, Centenary ranked at 74, up from 88 the year before. Centenary and the other schools listed exemplify the attributes parents and students look for in higher education, including small class sizes, a good freshman retention rate, and a high four-year graduation rate.

Centenary College was also named a Tier One National Liberal Arts College for the third year in a row in the 2014 ranking by U.S. News and World Report.
