  • What: CLC Fundraising Dinner

  • When: Thursday, March 20, 6:00 p.m.

  • Where: Centenary College Fitness Center

  • Cost: $45 per person, $300 for a table of 8

Tickle has authored more than two dozen books on religion and spirituality, including her most recent, Emergence Christianity: What It Is, Where It Is Going, and Why It Matters. In addition to her editorship, she serves on multiple advisory and corporate boards as well as a lay eucharistic minister and lector in the Episcopal Church. She has dedicated much of her life to religious works.

"Religion, whether we like it or not, is intimately tied to the culture in which it exists," says Tickle in Emergence Christianity. "Just as surely as one of the functions of religion is to inform, counsel, and temper the society in which it exists, just so surely is every religion informed and colored by its hosting society."

Tickle was an academic dean for almost six years at the Memphis College of Art; after that she became fully involved in writing and publishing. Her impressive mainstream media coverage of religious writing earned her the prestigious Mays Award in 1996. She has also received an honorary doctor of humane letters from the Berkley School of Divinity at Yale University as well as an honorary doctor of humane letters from North Park University.

The dinner will raise money to support the CLC, a faith-based program committed to creating educational opportunities at the intersection of faith and intellect. The program offers mission trips and academic programs tied to biblical study and integrated with theological discussion and reflection.

In addition to Tickle's presentation, events at the dinner will include student speakers discussing how CLC has influenced their college experience. A Christian Leadership award will be given to a member of the greater Shreveport-Bossier Community who demonstrates the values of servant leadership and the CLC program.

Tickets can be purchased online.
