SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College's Director of Human Resources Edie Cummings recently represented the state of Louisiana at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Regional Council Summit in Phoenix, Arizona. Cummings is the current Assistant State Director for the Louisiana Society for Human Resource Management (LASHRM) and will become State Director in 2015. LASHRM is the governing body for all Louisiana human resource chapters and professionals.

The SHRM Regional Council Summit brought together the State Directors and State Director-Elects from all 50 states for leadership development, updates on governmental affairs, HR recertification, membership, and information about the SHRM Foundation.

"I am learning what needs to be done this year for when I become Director," said Cummings. "I asked the current Director what I needed to bring with me to the Summit and she said, 'Bring your ears.' That's the main thing now—just absorbing information for the future."

Representatives on the LASHRM council commit to eight years of leadership with two years as Secretary/Treasurer, two years as Assistant Director, two years as Director, and two years as Past Director. Council representatives must have served as president of their local chapter. The State Council provides leadership, communication, and support for the Human Resource profession and is made up of nine local chapters.
