Board of Trustees promotes faculty, formally elects Provost

SHREVEPORT, LA — The Centenary Board of Trustees promoted Dr. Loren Demerath to Full Professor, Dr. Amy Hammond to Associate Professor, and formally elected Dr. Jenifer Ward as Provost and Dean of the College the Thursday, April 17 meeting.

"Both faculty members have exhibited consistent leadership in their departments and gained the admiration and respect of their peers and students," said President David Rowe, Centenary President. "Dr. Demerath and Dr. Hammond are two professors that truly make Centenary a caring, committed community of learning."

Demerath joined Centenary in 1997 and is Chair of the Sociology Department. He received his BA at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and both his MA and PhD at Indiana University. His research and teaching interests include culture, society and technology, social psychology, community and urban sociology, theory, and methods and statistics. Outside of the classroom, Demerath enjoys participating in theatre, biking, singing, playing, and playing guitar. Demerath also serves as Executive Director of A Better Shreveport, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Shreveport.

Hammond has taught in the Centenary Psychology Department since 2006. She received her BA at the University of California, Irvine, an MA at Rice University, and her MA and PhD at the University of Chicago. She has experience with several facets of psychology including clinical psychology by working with children with ADHD, human factors psychology, and developmental psychology dealing with language and cognition.
