Caddo Parish Public Schools honor Dr. Scott Vetter

SHREVEPORT, LA — This July, Centenary's Woolf Professor of Geology, Dr. Scott Vetter, was honored and recognized by the Caddo Parish School Board as an Education Partner.

Vetter came to Centenary in 1989 after completing his PhD at the University of South Carolina. While studying at South Carolina, he learned about a professor who regularly worked with local educators to make learning a more engaging experience. This group always seemed to be having fun, and it was then that Vetter decided to one day donate his talents to educators as well.

In 1990 he started working with local educators, teaching content and pedagogy classes in an earth science teacher certificate program offered at Centenary.

For over 20 years, Dr. Vetter has written grants to provide professional development for Caddo Parish math and science teachers. It is estimated that the total value of grants Vetter has accrued for the district is more than 2.5 million, all done at no cost to Caddo.

"I do it for the teachers and students," said Vetter. "I so enjoy helping make classrooms a better place for learning."
