Adam Walsh receives alma mater's Young Alumni Achievement Award

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary's Head Men's Basketball Coach Adam Walsh received High Point University's Young Alumni Achievement Award earlier this month in High Point, North Carolina.

"Being able to go 'home' and receive an award like this in front of friends and family was very rewarding," said Walsh, a 2000 graduate of High Point University. "It is humbling to know that I was chosen to represent the thousands of young alumni at my alma mater through this honor at a time when High Point University has become a trendsetter in higher education with her growth, remarkable vision, attention to detail, and excellence."

Walsh was one of three alumni recognized for work and service by High Point University during the Alumni Weekend. The Young Alumni Achievement Award is given to an alumnus or alumna 35 years old or younger based on outstanding promise in his or her field of endeavor, demonstrated leadership, and service to High Point University and/or his or her community.

In 2010, Walsh was named the 21st head coach of the Gents basketball program after serving as an assistant coach for three years. Walsh was named SCAC Co-Coach of the Year in 2013 after the team finished the 2013-14 season with a winning record of 18-10 in only their second year in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Under Walsh's leadership, the team posted the first winning season campaign since 2003-04, posted the most wins in school history since 1989-90, and made the first conference tournament championship game since 1990.

"The success on the court is nice, but my true concern is for the life lessons that we try to teach everyday and what kind of husbands, fathers, and leaders our players will become in the next 20-30 years," said Walsh. "I began my college career as a student manager for High Point going through a transitional stage from NCAA Division II to Division I, and I find it fitting that this award comes on the heels of helping to shepherd this program and department through its own NCAA transitional period over the past four years."

While not on the court, Walsh advises Centenary's Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter and has provided leadership on international mission trips with the College. Walsh was also selected this fall as a recipient of the prestigious 40 Under 40 award given annually by the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Initiative.
