Hurley presents A Winter's Evening

SHREVEPORT, LA — The Hurley School of Music at Centenary College is thrilled to celebrate the coming of winter with a special recital, A Winter's Evening, on Sunday, December 14, at 5 p.m. in Anderson Atrium and Auditorium.

Twyla and Daniel
Twyla Robinson '93 and Daniel Ley '10

Guests will mingle in the festive Christmas atmosphere of the Anderson Atrium for wine and nibbles. From high above, they will hear the sounds of a beautiful aria, "Ain't it a Pretty Night?" from Carlisle Floyd's opera Susannah. As the sounds of Twyla Robinson's singing fade, they will begin to hear a faint thrumming sound, like bells, as the Centenary Choir begins to sing the lovely "Stars" by Eriks Ešenvalds. The Choir will then lead the crowd into the Anderson Auditorium to enjoy the main recital, singing the rousing African-inspired "Noel," arranged by Brad Holmes. The recital will continue with Twyla Robinson, accompanied by Daniel Ley on the piano, in the Anderson Auditorium.

"For many years the most natural thing in the world to do was to gather as a community in a warm and intimate place against the winter's cold and dark, to share songs, stories, and togetherness," said Robinson. "As the longest night of the year approaches, I would like to gather again—for wine, for a wee nosh, for companionship and candlelight, and yes, for song."

Tickets are $40 and include wine and hors d'oeuvres . Tickets may be purchased at centenary.edu/winterrecital. For more information, call Jennifer Hill at 318.869.5235.
