The new certification, SHRM Certified Professional or SHRM-CP, validates proficiency in nine behavioral and technical competencies: leadership, ethical practice, business acumen, relationship management, consultation, critical evaluation, global & cultural effectiveness, communication, and human resource expertise/knowledge.

"I am excited to be one of the first eligible to receive the new Society for Human Resource Certified Professional credentials," said Cummings. "The SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional) demonstrate the evolution of HR and the steps being taken to be relevant in order to meet the challenges facing today's HR leaders."

As an incoming State Director, Cummings had the opportunity to participate in testing before many of her peers. Cummings is the current Assistant State Director for the Louisiana Society for Human Resource Management (LASHRM). LASHRM is the governing body for all Louisiana human resource chapters and professionals.

HR professionals with existing HR generalist certifications in good standing will be eligible for the new SHRM certification on January 5, 2015, by taking an online tutorial. HR professionals seeking a certification for the first time can apply for the SHRM Certification exam beginning January 5. The first exam period is scheduled for May 1 through July 15, 2015.
