SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary's Magale Library will host an art show featuring works by members of the Shreveport Pastel Society through the month of March in the front gallery. The exhibit will open Sunday, March 1, with a Meet the Artists reception at 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The Shreveport Pastel Society formed after 15 participants took a pastel workshop with nationally known artist, Alan Flattman, of New Orleans in 2005. When asked about their goals for painting, Barbara Rushing, a long-time member stated, "We paint for pure pleasure, no judging or ribbons." Instead, they paint as individual artists and show their work for sale.

The Society has 16 active members who exhibit their work in three to four shows per year. Members have studied in workshops with pastelists Bob Rohm, Kitty Wallis, Maggie Price, Elaine Leedy, and Susan Ogilvite.

The Shreveport Pastel Society's exhibit will be available for viewing through March in the lobby of Magale Library during regularly scheduled library hours.

Those interested in joining the Shreveport Pastel Society must submit an application and three digital photos of their work to Barbara Rushing at Brushing3@comcast.net.
