Centenary community members take home ADDY Awards

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary student Elena Hibbs '16, Assistant Professor of Communication Jessica Hawkins, and Centenary College were honored at the ADDY Awards Gala sponsored by the American Advertising Federation of Shreveport-Bossier on February 21. The annual event honors creative excellence in advertising.

"When I was told I received silver for my work on the book cover for Octavia, I was delightfully taken aback," said Hibbs. "With a silver win, I will be able to advance my submission to the next round of judging and attend the next event in Dallas this April. More than anything, I'm really excited to get to encounter more student and professional work through the American Advertising Federation."

Hawkins, Immediate Past President Club Achievement Chair of the American Advertising Federation of Shreveport-Bossier, took home a Special Judges Award and a Bronze award for work done through her freelance company, BlueJay Creative. Hawkins, along with others, also received praise from Hibbs for helping her advance her creative skills.

"I received a great deal of guidance and support from my advisor Professor Hawkins," said Hibbs. "She has always been quick to help me hone my skill set and determine the best outlets for my creative endeavors. She helped to connect me with the talented creative team at Gremillion & Pou Marketing, where I have spent the past year interning. I've also received a great deal of encouragement from professors outside the Communications Department. It was French Professor Dr. Kress who first approached me to work on book covers for Tintamarre. Creating covers for real novels was certainly a learning curve, but Centenary staff like Visual Identity and Publications Manager Sherry Heflin are always quick to show me how to process and package files."

Centenary College received a Bronze Addy for the 2014-15 Viewbook.
