"Back in January, there was a poetry reading at the Meadows in connection with the amazing Keith Carter photographic exhibit," said Professor of English Dr. David Havird. "It featured my wife and me, but also included an open mike. There was a big audience, and at least half-a-dozen local poets participated. One of them was Bennett Sewell, who is really a visual artist, a sculptor. He found the experience so rewarding that he wanted to duplicate it."

Local poets and students are invited to listen or participate by writing poems surrounding the theme of "nothing."

"Whether or not folks want to participate, they'll definitely enjoy the event—especially at the Meadows since they'll have the opportunity to view the fantastic exhibit in the main gallery of mythic, dream-like paintings by Marlene Tseng Yu, paintings that are sure to inspire even non-poets to search for new ways of self-expression," said Havird.
