Six-time Ironman champion Dave Scott to speak at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College, which recently announced that it will be adding women's triathlon as a varsity sport for the 2016-2017 academic year, will host six-time Ironman World Champion Triathlete Dave Scott for a triathlon clinic on July 31. Registration for the clinic, sponsored by Sportspectrum in Shreveport, is $75 and includes lunch, a t-shirt, and an event poster signed by Scott.

"I would like to thank Matt Brown and Sportspectrum for putting this clinic together," said Kyle Joplin, recently named Centenary's first women's triathlon coach. "We're fortunate to have someone as accomplished as Dave Scott teach a clinic right here at Centenary College. This is a great opportunity not just for the campus community, but for the River Cities community as a whole."

Scott's triathlon career began in 1976, with the inception of the sport, and he went on to win six Hawaii Ironman titles in the 1980s. He was the first inductee into the Ironman Hall of Fame in 1993, and is currently a motivational speaker.

The interactive, activity-driven clinic will be held in Centenary's Kilpatrick Auditorium and Fitness Center from 7:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on July 31. Topics presented will be nutrition, strength training, and proper warm-up for triathlon in addition to discussion of the biking component of the sport. Attendees are also asked to bring proper run and swim wear in order to participate in hands-on training activities in running and swimming, with feedback provided by Scott.

Scott will be in Shreveport in conjunction with the 35th annual River Cities Triathlon, which will take place on Sunday, August 2. With more than 1,200 athletes from 22 states, the River Cities Triathlon is one of the biggest sporting events in the south. The event features a 0.5 mile swim, 18.2 mile bike and a 5k run.
