Centenary faculty named among Top 25 Best

SHREVEPORT, LA — A new report on CBS MoneyWatch recognized Centenary College as one of the Top 25 Colleges with the Best Professors. Centenary is the only institution in the Ark-La-Tex area to receive this distinction.

"The Centenary experience has always focused heavily on the personal, one-on-one interaction students have with our professors," said Dr. Mike Hemphill, Centenary Provost and Dean. "In addition to our low student-faculty ratio and small class sizes, students benefit from being taught by professors who hold the highest degree in their fields. They are committed to involving students in research in their respective fields while dedicating themselves to guiding students toward their own individual passions. Our faculty is the foundation of a strong educational experience for our students."

The Center for College Affordability and Productivity compiled the list from the more than 15 million student ratings of college professors on RateMyProfessors.com.

The Top 25 list is comprised mostly of small liberal arts colleges. The news comes on the heels of the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) announcing a new initiative to promote liberal arts and the effectiveness of independent higher education. The CIC reports that smaller independent colleges like Centenary College produce graduates who are among the best prepared for success in their personal, career, and community lives.

The Center for College Affordability and Productivity uses the professor rating to create the Forbes Best Colleges lists. In August 2012, Forbes named Centenary one of "America's Top Colleges" and "Best Private Colleges" for the fifth consecutive year.
